REVIEW: Appalachian Gold Struck Again. Ian Noe Releases ‘Between The Country’ On May 31st

The world is seeing a musical shift, a revolution, a renaissance, a renewal and a revival and Kentucky artists are leading the charge. Artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers command music lovers attention. The latest sensation that is destined to follow their lead is Ian Noe. While nothing is ever really a sure thing in music, it’s safe to put some bets on Ian Noe and his music. Ian’s music will never be heard on terrestrial radio, it’s too authentic. His music will never be on an Avenger’s soundtrack, it’s too real and his music may never top the mainstream Billboard charts, but dropping in at number…

Chico: A Documentary Short Film. Playing Good Country Music And Treating Everybody Right.

We have all heard tales of these larger than life characters. Most were from old neighborhoods or they were born out of a crime and even sometimes, they were within our own families. Here in Kentucky, you have stories that range from Daniel Boone to Bad Tom Smith to Floyd Collins. While most legends usually wind up being more fiction than fact, filmmakers Zach Curry and Joe Whalen sought to document a current legend living within our midst and they give you an insiders look at the evolution

The Power Of The Female Voice Was On Full Display At The Sweet Thing Jamboree In Irvine

If you follow a vehicle with Delaware tags into Estill County, you know you’re in for a great time. Why? Because the tiny Appalachian town of Irvine is the heart and soul of our currently burgeoning musical community. Sure larger cities host larger crowds and more famous bands, but Irvine is special and the folks from Delaware punctuate my point perfectly. Those folks drove to Irvine for one thing and one thing only, the music. I’ve said it a hundred times by now, but Kentucky is leading the charge in producing raw, genuine down-home, humble artists that forge bonds like the Grateful Dead did in San Francisco before taking on…

Tyler Childers Comes Home To Kentucky To Ring In The New Year With Three Sold-Out Performances At The Louisville Palace

If you’re a reader of this site, you’ve likely read one of the many articles that I have written about Kentucky’s newest favorite son, Tyler Childers. If this is your first time here, feel free to take a look around, but more importantly, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy what we do here. When an artist returns to their home state, it is always a love fest and attending those shows are my favorite activity in life. I’ve seen wonderfully talented folks return home for a show. Folks like Dwight Yoakam, Sundy Best, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, The Kentucky Headhunters, Black Stone Cherry and of course, Mr.…

Jason Isbell Delights The MAC In Prestonsburg

*Photo provided by an anonymous Facebook rule-breaking renegade Jason Isbell brought his acoustic show to the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) for a nearly sold-out performance. Just over 1,000 tickets were gobbled up almost immediately and deservedly so. There were a few seats that opened up last minute, otherwise it would have certainly been a sell out. I do want to say one thing about the MAC. I know I sound like a broken record, but the MAC is an absolute Kentucky treasure. I have now seen Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell in that room. If you’re overlooking the MAC, you need to remedy that because those folks and…

Oh What A Year In Pictures! Capture Kentucky 2018 Edition

I debated on putting this photo recap together, but oh what a year it was! We had a ton of fun and there were waaaaaay more photos that I wanted to include, but I tried to just do some highlights and favorites for everyone. My goodness, Kentucky is absolutely loaded with talent and we had an almost overwhelming amount of support in 2018. We truly can’t thank you enough and we promise to work even harder in 2019 to not only cover your favorite artists, but to create events and to shine a little light on the wonderful talent in Kentucky. Thanks for everything and we’ll see you at the…

Tyler Childers, Kelsey Waldon, Justin Wells, The Wild Rumpus and Half Bad Bluegrass Do Their Part In Healing Appalachia.

Before we get into this article, I want to take a moment to ask for your help. Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia are facing a terrible opioid epidemic. Organizations like Healing Appalachia assist folks with recovery, as well as setting up programs to help prevent addiction. As an Eastern Kentuckian, much like Mr. Tyler Childers, I want to help where I can. I was asked to donate some prints which were sold at the event. Here is where you come in. If you weren’t at this show, please consider donating online. Together, we can make a change. If able, please donate here. Thank you.

Kickin’ It On The Creek 2018 – Saturday Edition

The crickets, frogs and birds provided the soundtrack for a peaceful nights rest and it was once again time to do some kickin’ on the creek. The music started early on my day two and the fact that Mr. Childers would be playing later on Saturday night, I fully expected the crowd to be much thicker. The Wine Tree Band began the day for folks, but I have to admit they didn’t start mine. So my apologies to those folks. The sirens song that the frogs and crickets sang kept me in bed until about 9:15. As I awoke and scanned the schedule for the day, I suddenly realized that Saturday…
