First Listen: Joslyn & The Sweet Compression Drop Their Self-Titled Debut Album

Joslyn & The Sweet Compression are unlike any other band that Kentucky has to offer. Their distinct sound traces it’s roots back to the classic funk and soul records that took the world by storm, reminiscent of the sounds of Motown. Conjuring visions of ladies like Jill Scott, Chaka Khan and the one and only Aretha Franklin. Here at Capture Kentucky, we refer to vocalist Joslyn Hampton as the “Queen of Kentucky” and once you hear the range, power and vocal control this young lady possesses, I think you’ll agree.

The Sweet Compression are led by guitarist Marty Charters. Marty toured with the wonderful and legendary bluesman Junior Wells for many years, as well as with Cincinnati’s H-Bomb Ferguson. Once Marty began looking to create a new project, he didn’t have to look far for the voice he wanted. Marty also happens to be the Stepfather of Joslyn Hampton. After collaborating to write some songs, they quickly found themselves needing to round out the band. Steve Holloman holds down the keys and some harmonies, while drummer Rashawn Fleming mans the kit. He’s accompanied by bassist Smith Donaldson and the horns of Joe Carucci and Kyle Fox. (more…)

Just What We Needed. A Recap Of Our Networking Night At Austin City Saloon.

We’ve also covered tons of great concerts. (more…)

Lexington Brought The Love As Magnolia Boulevard Unleashed Their Debut EP

If you live in Kentucky, you need to be paying close attention to the musical community. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. There has likely never been a time where Kentucky has possessed more talent than she does right now. Seriously. Allow me to use Magnolia Boulevard as a shining example for ya.

Kentucky shines with artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Black Stone Cherry and Tyler Childers at the top of their games while our legends continue to thrive. Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, The Kentucky Headhunters and many more are still performing to large crowds all over the world. While that’s truly wonderful, I want you to focus more on the artists still trying to get to their levels. Remember, every single musician on this planet was once a local musician. (more…)

Joslyn And The Sweet Compression Debut Music Video For “Honey, Be”

Here at Capture Kentucky, we pride ourselves on finding talented individuals and providing a bit of a spotlight for them. We believe in discussing what you love, rather than bashing what you don’t. So if a band or artist is on our site, it’s not by accident.

One of our favorite finds is a young lady named Joslyn Hampton. Joslyn and her band The Sweet Compression were included on our 23 artists you should know list, which you can read here, so hopefully, her sound is familiar to a few of you. If not, please allow me the great pleasure to introduce you Joslyn and the Sweet Compression. (more…)
