Oh What A Year In Pictures! Capture Kentucky 2018 Edition

I debated on putting this photo recap together, but oh what a year it was! We had a ton of fun and there were waaaaaay more photos that I wanted to include, but I tried to just do some highlights and favorites for everyone. My goodness, Kentucky is absolutely loaded with talent and we had an almost overwhelming amount of support in 2018. We truly can’t thank you enough and we promise to work even harder in 2019 to not only cover your favorite artists, but to create events and to shine a little light on the wonderful talent in Kentucky. Thanks for everything and we’ll see you at the…

Joslyn & The Sweet Compression Brought The Party To The People!

This article won’t be in-depth. There’s a really simple reason for that and once you see the photos, you’ll get it. After all, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words right? The Burl had to be at or near capacity. It was PACKED and I could not have been more proud. I struggled to get photos. I struggled to see. I struggled all night and I couldn’t have been happier. Seeing your friends have success is one of the best feelings on this earth. The two bands on the bill were Magnolia Boulevard and Joslyn & The Sweet Compression. Joslyn played Magnolia Boulevard’s release party earlier this…

The Moonshiner’s Ball 2018: Bigger, Better And One Of The Best

In 2017, The Moonshiner’s Ball was the first festival that I covered as Capture Kentucky. I covered many shows and we featured many festivals on my old site,Unsung Melody, but most were out of state. As Capture Kentucky began to evolve into what you’re reading now, I quickly came to the realization that festivals like The Moonshiner’s Ball are way more important than large overpriced festivals. Mainly because there importance immediately impacts the culture that I care most about and that’s my community. My State. My friends. Besides, without festivals like Moonshiner’s, where would the bands on those large overpriced festivals get the traction to make it to those bigger…

Kickin’ It On The Creek 2018 – Saturday Edition

The crickets, frogs and birds provided the soundtrack for a peaceful nights rest and it was once again time to do some kickin’ on the creek. The music started early on my day two and the fact that Mr. Childers would be playing later on Saturday night, I fully expected the crowd to be much thicker. The Wine Tree Band began the day for folks, but I have to admit they didn’t start mine. So my apologies to those folks. The sirens song that the frogs and crickets sang kept me in bed until about 9:15. As I awoke and scanned the schedule for the day, I suddenly realized that Saturday…

Kickin’ It On The Creek 2018 – Friday Edition

Kickin’ On The Creek is one of the most difficult festivals that I have ever been asked to describe. Why you ask? Thank goodness! I wasn’t sure how to move forward. So I’ll start here, family. The Roberts family has turned their beautiful homestead into a music venue. Wait, what? No seriously. Hear me out. Deep in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, part of the Daniel Boone Forest, technically in Lee County, Byron Roberts and his family have seriously turned their home into a music venue. What seems impossible is actually flat-out magical. Give me another example of such selflessness. I’ll wait…..You have nothing? That’s what I thought. The…

Top 20 Must-See Kentucky Artists At Kickin’ It On The Creek 2018

Kickin’ It On The Creek (KIOTC) has quickly grown into the absolute MUST have ticket for Kentucky Festivals. The four-day event held deep in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains has drawn in like-minded folks who have banded together to create a beautiful, helpful, loving community. There’s even a common phrase used by those in the musical community and it’s eloquent in its simplicity, “Know Your Tribe.” I can say first hand that once you are accepted within the “tribe”, your faith in humanity will get a huge jolt in the restoration department. Now I’ve heard a million stories about how magical KIOTC is. How it is all about community…

Lexington Unites In Love, Respect And Music For A Celebration Of The Highwaymen And The Women Who Loved Them

Capture Kentucky was created as a creative outlet for my photography. I wanted the opportunity to try my hand at photographing as many different events and attractions as possible. I simply wanted to grow as an artist myself. I knew that I would eventually end up leaning on music, but what I didn’t know, was just how much Capture Kentucky would mean to everyone else. On Sunday, August 12th, the musical community came out in full force and drove home just how much the work we do here means. This article has been a huge challenge for me because I want to make sure the community knows that the love…

What Makes Magnolia Boulevard So Special? A Tale Of Talent, Humility And Fate.

Roughly one year ago, Lexington’s Magnolia Boulevard was formed. The band has quickly grown a passionate fan base and for good reason. If this is your first time hearing about the band, please allow me to fill you in. Magnolia Boulevard consists of Ryan Allen (Keys), Todd Copeland (Drums), Gregg Erwin (Guitar), Maggie Noelle (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar) and John Roberts (Bass). The band has drawn comparisons to the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Bonnie Raitt and even the Allman Brothers. It’s rare for a band to be together for such a little amount of time and yet they know exactly who they are.

A Night With The Master Musicians Festival At The Burl Takeover

Somerset, Kentucky is a small city that many others could learn from. They have found their niche and are thriving. You could take a trip to Lake Cumberland to relax. You could enjoy one of many Somernites Cruises. Maybe you would prefer to enjoy the SomerSplash waterpark. For my money, you need to make the trip to Somerset on July 13th and 14th. That’s when the 25th edition of the Master Musicians Festival takes place. This year’s headliner is folk legend John Prine. That should be enough of an incentive to go, but if not, allow me to talk some sense into ya. In addition to Mr. Prine, you’ll also…

Lexington Brought The Love As Magnolia Boulevard Unleashed Their Debut EP

If you live in Kentucky, you need to be paying close attention to the musical community. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. There has likely never been a time where Kentucky has possessed more talent than she does right now. Seriously. Allow me to use Magnolia Boulevard as a shining example for ya. Kentucky shines with artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Black Stone Cherry and Tyler Childers at the top of their games while our legends continue to thrive. Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, The Kentucky Headhunters and many more are still performing to large crowds all over the world. While that’s truly wonderful, I want you to…
