Mr. Big – Defying Gravity (Album Review)
Mr. Big is a band that rose to prominence back in 1992. Their sound was all over the radio, MTV and even late night television back in the day. Songs like “To Be With You”, “Just Take My Heart” and “Green-Tinted Sixties Mind” brought them world-wide recognition. Shining a bright light on an incredibly talented group of musicians that includes Eric Martin (Vocals), Billy Sheehan (Bass), Paul Gilbert (Guitar) and Pat Torpey (Drums). Sheehan and Gilbert are often highly ranked on lists of the greatest musicians to ever pick up an instrument and rightfully so. Both are as unique as they come, but their ability to meld their talents behind…

A Kentucky Tradition Like No Other, Forecastle Fest 2017
Major cities often times struggle to have a defining identity. Thankfully for Kentucky, Louisville doesn’t have that problem. Although some may say that Louisville is schizophrenic. On the Dr. Jeckyl side of things, you have Kentucky Derby and the horse elitists. On the Mr. Hyde side, you have an incredible art and music scene. You’ll often see this side of Louisville proclaiming #KeepLouisvilleWeird. Thankfully for Kentucky, both cultures thrive and survive. The latter mentality happens to be the target audience for the Forecastle Fest. This year was their 15th voyage and the lineup was more eclectic than ever. Showcasing everything from DJ’s to Rap, Folk to Rock, Pop to Country…

On The Road: Star Wars And The Power Of Costume At The Cincinnati Museum Center Inside Union Terminal
Capture Kentucky is proud to present a new series that we’re calling, “On The Road”. While our main focus will always be all the things that make our Commonwealth so great, we will be posting articles that feature things we see and do within our travels outside our home. In this first installment, we took the short trip across the mighty Ohio River into Cincinnati. It’s there where we made our way to The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. While the majority of the Museum is under a long renovation, the Children’s Museum and the traveling Smithsonian exhibit that features Star Wars and the Power of Costume are both…

The Monster Energy NASCAR Series Invade The Kentucky Speedway For The Quaker State 400
As a young man, I grew up around cars and racing. When you’re poor, you have to learn a few ways to turn a wrench, if for no other reason than survival. Having family and neighbors that raced on the dirt tracks of Eastern Kentucky certainly made me pay attention to the NASCAR series or as it was more often referred to then, the Winston Cup. I guess I’m showing my age here, but the point is simple, racing is in my blood, so it only made sense to cover the race held right here in our great Commonwealth. After a Friday night rain-out of the Xfinity Series, Saturday became…

Capture Kentucky Presents: Top 10 Do Not Miss Artists At The 2017 Forecastle Festival
This weekend (July 14th-16th), many artists will make their way to the stage in Louisville. They will be filling the air with their unique sounds at the 15th edition of Louisville’s Forecastle Festival. You likely know a few of the bigger named acts on the bill. Like Bowling Green, Kentucky’s own Cage The Elephant or Breathitt County’s Sturgill Simpson. You have likely listened to artists like LCD Soundsystem, Weezer, PJ Harvey and NEEDTOBREATHE for years. But with any Festival, it’s worth your time and efforts to catch the earlier, lesser known acts. Why? I’m glad you asked. See, music is a journey. A long-winding road (pun fully intended) that more…

L.A. Guns, Budderside and Sinful Lilly At The Forum In Hazard, KY
Kentucky’s Sinful Lilly got things started with their own brand of (as Fredi Handshoe the band’s front man calls it) guitar-driven, alternative hard rock. The Richmond natives tore through songs like “Wait Your Turn” “Guilty” “Jack” a new song “Devil Music and the Record Machine”. The band put on a high-energy stage show with Nikki Handshoe (bass and vocal) often leaving the stage to mingle with the audience, while never missing a beat! Trey Bledsoe, who is a wild man on the drums as you will in the photos below, rounds out the trio.

Kentucky Adds Yet Another Band To The Ranks Of Having A Record Deal!
Edmonton, KY – I personally have been singing the praises of this young band to anyone that would listen for quite some time now. In fact, back in 2014, I reviewed their John Brim Tribute Album and covered their CD Release show. If you’d like to read those, you can find them on Unsung Melody here.
