You May Have Went To Church On New Year’s Eve, But St. Paul Took Us To Church At The Louisville Palace

For the second year in a row, we’ve celebrated the New Year at my personal favorite venue on the planet, the Louisville Palace. Last year, we rocked our way into 2017 with Southern Rockers, Blackberry Smoke. That was a truly fantastic night of fun, but on an absolutely frigid Sunday night, Church was held at the Louisville Palace.
The War & Treaty kicked off the night. I scanned a couple of tracks online before the show, but with the hectic schedule of the holidays, I was really going into their set blindly. In hindsight, that probably wasn’t my best move, but after the fact, I wouldn’t change a thing. Why? Glad you asked. Have you ever received a totally unexpected gift that caused a huge cheesy grin that you simply couldn’t wipe off your face for no amount of money? Good. Now you exactly how I felt the moment the husband and wife duo opened their mouths. (more…)

A Kentucky Tradition Like No Other, Forecastle Fest 2017
Major cities often times struggle to have a defining identity. Thankfully for Kentucky, Louisville doesn’t have that problem. Although some may say that Louisville is schizophrenic. On the Dr. Jeckyl side of things, you have Kentucky Derby and the horse elitists. On the Mr. Hyde side, you have an incredible art and music scene. You’ll often see this side of Louisville proclaiming #KeepLouisvilleWeird. Thankfully for Kentucky, both cultures thrive and survive.
The latter mentality happens to be the target audience for the Forecastle Fest. This year was their 15th voyage and the lineup was more eclectic than ever. Showcasing everything from DJ’s to Rap, Folk to Rock, Pop to Country and everything in-between.
Music is certainly a large part of Forecastle, and we will discuss much of that, but I also wanted to shine a light on what makes this Festival uniquely Kentucky. (more…)

The Smoke Rolls, While the Bourbon and Cash Flow

The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby was only my second experience at a horse race, preceded only by the Kentucky Oaks the day before. Nothing anyone could have told me would have prepared me for what was about to come when I woke up way too early to get into “Derby attire.” It was finally race day and it was time to make the drive up to Louisville for the most exciting two minutes in sports. But, if you’d like something different to occupy you during the day, while also providing a seat, clean restrooms, less crowded concessions and the ability to come and go between your seat amd Waterfront Park. The Louisville Bats provide the PERFECT addition to your day. (more…)
