I know what you’re thinking. What in tarnation is Capture Kentucky doing in Iowa? The simple answer is the Hinterland Festival. The true reason is that I had the incredibly rare opportunity to make a very long trek to see three unique Kentucky artists surrounded by some of my personal favorite artists on this planet that we call Earth. Day two at the INKcarceration Festival was all about the music. The lineup on Sunday, if you looked at my iTunes, you’d think that I could’ve possibly had a hand in putting that lineup together. There were so many incredible artists, one right after the other. The good thing about it? At INKcarceration, bands never overlap so actually get to see all the bands you pay for.

Tattoos, music, food and one of my favorite places were enough to draw me North to Mansfield, OH. The 2018 INKcarceration Festival is a music and tattoo festival that hosted 70+ tattoo artists 33 bands over three days at the historic Ohio State Reformatory, or as most refer to it, the Shawshank Prison. That’s correct, my personal favorite movie (and hopefully yours), Stephen King’s ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ was filmed on location in and around Mansfield, OH.

We were excited to cover the INKcarceration Festival in Mansfield, OH, but we had no idea that it would turn out to be the best festival experience that we have experienced. Here at Capture Kentucky, we are presented with a lot of great opportunities. Sometimes though, the cool stuff just doesn’t make a stop in our great Commonwealth. That’s the purpose of series that we call, “On The Road”. In this edition, we made our way to Asheville, NC. A beautiful mountain town with a thriving arts community and a terrific music scene that’s probably most famous for the stunning home of the railroad mogul George W. Vanderbilt.
