Top 20 Must-See Kentucky Artists At Kickin’ It On The Creek 2018

    September 9, 2018 /

Kickin’ It On The Creek (KIOTC) has quickly grown into the absolute MUST have ticket for Kentucky Festivals. The four-day event held deep in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains has drawn in like-minded folks who have banded together to create a beautiful, helpful, loving community. There’s even a common phrase used by those in the musical community and it’s eloquent in its simplicity, “Know Your Tribe.” I can say first hand that once you are accepted within the “tribe”, your faith in humanity will get a huge jolt in the restoration department. Now I’ve heard a million stories about how magical KIOTC is. How it is all about community…

REVIEW: Kentucky’s Wayne Graham Unleashes Joy! On September 18th

    September 5, 2018 /

I know what you’re thinking. Which one is Wayne Graham? And the answer is none of them. The bands moniker was created by combining the two Grandfathers that brothers Hayden and Kenny Miles share. As a fellow Eastern Kentuckian, I certainly understand and appreciate the nod to family. While Joy! is Wayne Graham’s fourth release, in my humble opinion, it is by far their most ambitious. Joy! is also their first album to receive a European release, which will be on K&F Records in Germany. As with any review, I try to highlight only a few songs that I feel you will appreciate. Then I leave the rest for you…

Cinder & Smoke Fest Delivers A Community Effort That Felt More Like A Family Reunion Than A Music Festival

    August 30, 2018 /

If you’re reading this, thank you. Here at Capture Kentucky, building a strong community of like-minded individuals who share their affinity for Kentucky is the core of what we are trying to do. From that simple idea, the Cinder & Smoke Fest was born and I don’t think we could have ever imagined the outpouring of love that took place at Proud Mary BBQ on Sunday. Especially for an event in its first year with a small budget and a free show. For me, it was validation for what we’re doing. I feel that people are seeing the benefits of us all working together and it’s a beautiful thing. My…

Exclusive First Listen! Hear The US Debut of John R. Miller & The Engine Lights – The Trouble You Follow, out August 31st On Emperor Records

    August 30, 2018 /

John R. Miller is a well-known singer-songwriter from West Virginia that has been a major influence on many Kentucky musicians. Miller’s work with Prison Book Club caught the attention of a young Kentuckian by the name of Tyler Childers. Childers went on to release a version of Prison Book Club’s “Coming Down” on his ‘Live on Red Barn Radio I & II’ release. I tell you that to help you understand why we’re featuring a West Virginia songwriter on Capture Kentucky. John R. Miller and his songs are simply that important and Miller’s new release is on Emperor Records, which happens to be based right here in Central Kentucky in…

SOLD OUT!! Crowder Raises The Roof And Spirits At The Mountain Arts Center In Prestonsburg

    August 25, 2018 /

When it comes to Contemporary Christian music, few names are bigger than that of Crowder. So as you can imagine, Prestonsburg was buzzing with excitement that such an amazingly talented individual was visiting the Mountain Arts Center. Crowder is the last name and moniker used by Mr. David Crowder. He rose to prominence as the frontman of the David Crowder Band. A position he held until 2012 when the band decided it was time to move on. David then pursued a solo career and Crowder is the end result. The Texas native is well known for his energetic performances and wonderful message as a fellowship leader, so I was excited…

Cinder & Smoke Fest Promises Great Food, Cold Drinks And The Perfect Soundtrack To Summer

    August 21, 2018 /

Here at Capture Kentucky, we do our best to shine a light on Kentucky’s greatest asset, her people. That’s the reason we decided to create the Cinder & Smoke Fest. We wanted to create an opportunity to bring people together while allowing folks that are way more talented than us, to have a stage and a crowd. Mother Nature was unkind to us in July, but thankfully we were able to regroup and focus on a new date. On Sunday, August 26th, Proud Mary BBQ in Lexington, KY will host our inaugural Cinder & Smoke Fest. We are bringing in some of our favorite Kentucky bands and artists from all…

Lexington Unites In Love, Respect And Music For A Celebration Of The Highwaymen And The Women Who Loved Them

    August 15, 2018 /

Capture Kentucky was created as a creative outlet for my photography. I wanted the opportunity to try my hand at photographing as many different events and attractions as possible. I simply wanted to grow as an artist myself. I knew that I would eventually end up leaning on music, but what I didn’t know, was just how much Capture Kentucky would mean to everyone else. On Sunday, August 12th, the musical community came out in full force and drove home just how much the work we do here means. This article has been a huge challenge for me because I want to make sure the community knows that the love…

On The Road: The Hinterland Festival Featuring Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Nathaniel Rateliff, Blackberry Smoke, Wheeler Walker, Jr. And More In St. Charles, Iowa

    August 6, 2018 /

I know what you’re thinking. What in tarnation is Capture Kentucky doing in Iowa? The simple answer is the Hinterland Festival. The true reason is that I had the incredibly rare opportunity to make a very long trek to see three unique Kentucky artists surrounded by some of my personal favorite artists on this planet that we call Earth. Do I have your attention yet? Good. The Hinterland Festival is a two-day event that has created one of the best lineups that I have ever seen put together. While we weren’t able to stay for the Friday night event that included Ancient Posse, Tash Sultana, Chvrches, and Band Of Horses.…

On The Road: Coverage From Sunday At The INKcarceration Festival At Shawshank Prison in Mansfield, OH

    July 25, 2018 /

Day two at the INKcarceration Festival was all about the music. The lineup on Sunday, if you looked at my iTunes, you’d think that I could’ve possibly had a hand in putting that lineup together. There were so many incredible artists, one right after the other. The good thing about it? At INKcarceration, bands never overlap so actually get to see all the bands you pay for.
