Nashville, Tennessee is the undisputed center of the Country Music universe. There are a million reasons that Nashville is one of the fastest-growing cities in our Republic with more and more people seeking opportunities to chase their dreams than ever before.
Artists, musicians, songwriters, videographers, photographers, dancers, you name it, have packed up and placed their bets on Nashville.
One artist that made the move several years ago, is Kendell Marvel. Marvel moved South from his home state of Illinois. He then had some early success as a songwriter. He penned one of my favorite Gary Allan songs in “Right Where I Need To Be.”
With that success, Marvel has gone on to work with folks like George Strait, Jake Owen, and Jamey Johnson.
By now, you’re likely wondering why I’m writing about an Illinois songwriter that lives in Nashville. Why should you care? I’m glad you asked, and I’ll happily fill ya in. (more…)
Friday’s Forgotten Gems: Dwight Yoakam

Music is a way of life here at Capture Kentucky. We love, live it and do our best to share it. While doing that, we’re often reminded of great songs, albums and artists that may or may not have had the success that we felt they deserved. It’s a series we’re calling “Friday’s Forgotten Gems!”
This edition we revisit Kentucky legend Dwight Yoakam’s catalogue. Dwight has been on my mind the last few days since Campton, Kentucky’s Tyler Booth announced that he will be playing a few shows as an opener for Dwight.
Exclusive Premiere! Brad Hardin Releases His Debut Song, “Pretty As You”

One of the most difficult things here at Capture Kentucky is keeping up with all the wonderful talent that is blossoming around us. It is one absolutely tremendous to have though!! As I’ve said often that Kentucky is where it’s at and here’s yet another artist to solidify my point.
Let me introduce you to a fella that is throwing his hat in the ring as he chases his dreams. Meet Danville, Kentucky’s Brad Hardin. (more…)
Nashville Is Officially Blue! The Kentucky Takeover At Marathon Music Works Brought The Party And The Soundtrack!

Nashville, Tennessee is considered the home of Country Music. So when I was approached by Daniel Collins (Whiskey Soldier) to help develop a Kentucky Takeover that would showcase Kentucky Musicians during the SEC Tournament, it was a no-brainer. I’m in. Let’s make a new tradition and shoehorn Kentucky into Nashville!
After several phone calls and many emails, a date was set and the wheels began spinning quickly. Which is a positive sign for sure. The only drawback to scheduling during the SEC Tournament, is you don’t know seeding and game times. Turns out that Kentucky played at 6pm, when the Kentucky Takeover was to begin. (more…)
Who Is The Next Star From Kentucky?

I want to tell you folks a little story.
About 10 years or so ago, there was a show in Campton, Kentucky. Campton’s pride at the time was Stitch Rivet. Also on the bill were Lexington’s Valrosa and Florida’s Stereoside.
That show was important for a whole slew of reasons, but I want to tell a story about a young man that rocked out as hard as anyone that day. This young man absolutely loved Stitch Rivet and Valrosa. He was front and center for most of the show. Just so happens, this young man’s Uncle (more…)
The Who, What, When, Where And Why. The Kentucky Takeover In Nashville At Marathon Music Works

When I was approached about helping Whiskey | Soldier develop Kentucky Takeover, my mind, as it often does, began racing at all of the potential opportunities. As our conversations progressed, the two things that I locked in on were simple.
1. How can I help make this a yearly event so we can funnel Kentucky’s talent to Nashville?
2. Who best represents the music happening in our Commonwealth?
Dan Collins (Whiskey | Soldier) and I came up with some really good ideas that I truly believe will make this show not only successful, but also sustainable. It’s one thing to dream something up, but it’s even more difficult to make people care year after year, but you can bet your a$$ that we will do everything we can to make it successful.
*Dan Collins (Whiskey Soldier) & Tiffany Finley from Master Musician Festival*
He and I had some conversations about this show about a year ago. His dream was always a Kentucky Takeover, but finding the when and where proved (more…)
Brooks & Dunn Are Back! This Time They Have One Of Kentucky’s Brightest Young Stars In Tow!

If you’ve been under a rock all your life, please allow me to fill you in on Brooks & Dunn. Arguably, they’re one of, if not the most, recognizable duo in Country Music history. With 20+ number one hits, Brooks & Dunn were on the top of the Country music world for over 20 years. Then, in 2009 the duo announced an amicable split.
After pursuing solo careers, it seems the guys have found some fuel to (more…)
