On The Road: Coverage From Saturday At The INKcarceration Festival At Shawshank Prison in Mansfield, OH

Tattoos, music, food and one of my favorite places were enough to draw me North to Mansfield, OH. The 2018 INKcarceration Festival is a music and tattoo festival that hosted 70+ tattoo artists 33 bands over three days at the historic Ohio State Reformatory, or as most refer to it, the Shawshank Prison. That’s correct, my personal favorite movie (and hopefully yours), Stephen King’s ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ was filmed on location in and around Mansfield, OH.

Country Superstar Shania Twain Brings Her “Now” Tour To The KFC Yum! Center In Louisville

Shania Twain is a name that needs no introduction. Shania has sold more albums than any other female Country artist in history. Due to a medical issue, she was forced to step away from her musical career back in 2004. Shania took advantage of her time off to raise her son and enjoy their time together while regaining the vocal strength needed to ultimately make her return. Shania did just that as she came back in 2011 for a concert residency in Vegas that ran for about three years. She didn’t release another album until 2017, which came two years after Shania announced her farewell tour back in 2015. Thankfully…

The 15th Edition Of ROMP Brought The Heat To Owensboro!

Persistent heat and unforgivable humidity couldn’t put a damper on the 15th annual ROMP Fest held at Yellow Creek Park outside of Owensboro, Ky. from June 27-30. Continuously gathering the best in bluegrass, old-time and roots music, the festival’s 2018 iteration featured headline and standout performances from Alison Krauss, Leftover Salmon, Billy Strings, Love Canon and others. Missing earlier sets on Thursday from the likes of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, bluegrass state native Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder and others, I arrived just prior to Colorado music and ROMP veterans Leftover Salmon. The group opened their set with frontman Vince Herman singing about the state’s rolling hills and…

Taylor Swift Rides Her reputation Tour Into Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville

This review will be a bit different than most. We will certainly discuss the massive production that Taylor Swift brought to our Commonwealth, but first, I want to talk a bit about how my entire idea for this review just wasn’t going to say what needs to be said and I’ll tell you the exact moment when that happened. Having seen some of the largest pop artists going, I fully expected all the bells, whistles, pyro and dancers. What I really didn’t grasp was just how much Taylor Swift actually means to her fans. From age 3 to age 70, I saw their hearts in their eyes. Each of them…

Eatin’ Big Time. Tyler Childers Makes A Triumphant Return To The Bluegrass.

I’ve spoken at length on this site about how special shows are when an artist returns home to the folks that helped create them. I’m going to do that again, but this time, it’s different. It’s special. It’s electric and if you missed it, I am truly sorry. Lawrence County was the spot where the earth and cosmos collided to allow us earthlings to receive our Country Music Savior, but Lexington, Kentucky and Huntington, WV shaped this young man into the entertainer that he is. If you haven’t pieced it together by now, I’m talking about Kentucky’s newest favorite son, Mr. Tyler Childers.

The Levitt Amp Whitesburg Music Series #3 Featuring Zoe Speaks w/ Appaltin

On Thursday it was time for another installment (number three of ten to be exact) of the Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series here in Whitesburg Kentucky. The beautiful weather and all the local schools being out for the summer saw the biggest crowd yet at the Mountain Heritage stage for what promised to be an entertaining evening of music with Appalatin and Zoe Speaks. Zoe Speaks with their blend of Folk/Americana/ Old-Time Mountain music and award-winning songwriting was the first on stage tonight. Zoe Speaks is a band with deep eastern Kentucky ties; Carla Gover (Vocals, Banjo) is originally from right here in Whitesburg while Mitch Barrett (Vocals, Guitar) is…

The Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series #2 Featuring Shannon McNally w/ The Seth Ferguson Experience

Recently, I founnd myself back in Whitesburg for the second installment of the ten-week Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music series (http://concerts.levittamp.org/whitesburg). This week we switch from bluegrass to rock, country, Americana and a little blues. No rain or overcast skies this time around, the weather was perfect! That perfect weather brought out a decent crowd for this week’s free concert. Starting off this week’s show is The Seth Ferguson Experience a rock band from just up the road in Paintsville, Kentucky. A really solid band! They played mostly original tunes and a killer cover of Neil Young’s “Heart Of Gold”. Several songs from their debut album Seth Ferguson ‘Man Vs Guitar‘…

EXCLUSIVE: Colter Wall Destroys The Burl With A Little Help From Coby Langham

Colter Wall, a unique name, tied to an even more unique voice. Him and his good friend, Tyler Childers, are on a mission to save Country Music. Some say these two are the equivalent to a modern day Waylon and Willie, and you’ll get no argument from me. The two sold-out Colter shows at The Burl (Capacity of 300) are a great indication of just quickly Colter’s star is rising. There is zero doubt that next time he’s in town, it will be in a much bigger venue, and deservedly so.

Just What We Needed. A Recap Of Our Networking Night At Austin City Saloon.

When I created Capture Kentucky, I had several ideas and paths that I planned on taking. The site was created to showcase anything and everything that we felt made Kentucky cool. We’ve tried our hand at covering different events like NASCAR, Flat Track Motorcycle Racing, World of Outlaws Racing, a Ballet, the Kentucky Music Hall Of Fame, several festivals, MLB and MiLB Baseball, Car Shows, a Motorcycle Club Ride, the WWE, a Fire Station and even Keeneland. We’ve also covered tons of great concerts.
