Top 15 Moments From Capture Kentucky’s First Two Years!

Here at Capture Kentucky, we’ve been incredibly blessed to be a part of some really great moments. Moments that will someday soon, be looked upon as part of our musical history. We’ve already seen the rise of several Kentucky artists and we feel there are plenty more on the horizon. Having said that, here is a list of the top 15 moments we were privileged to be a part of over the last two years!

First, an honorable mention. We created the Cinder & Smoke Fest which was held at Proud Mary BBQ in Lexington in 2018. It was the culmination of many months of work and it is something we are incredibly proud of. This year, we’re having the show in Jackson, Kentucky and when you see the lineup, you’re gonna want to snag tickets asap. So go ahead and clear 6/22 on your calendars. Trust me!

Now onto the list! (more…)

Jason Isbell Delights The MAC In Prestonsburg

*Photo provided by an anonymous Facebook rule-breaking renegade

Jason Isbell brought his acoustic show to the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) for a nearly sold-out performance. Just over 1,000 tickets were gobbled up almost immediately and deservedly so. There were a few seats that opened up last minute, otherwise it would have certainly been a sell out.

I do want to say one thing about the MAC. I know I sound like a broken record, but the MAC is an absolute Kentucky treasure. I have now seen Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell in that room. If you’re overlooking the MAC, you need to remedy that because those folks and the venue itself are top-notch.

Mr. Isbell is often recognized as one the greatest songwriters around and in what has became a winter tradition, Jason Isbell ends the year with

Oh What A Year In Pictures! Capture Kentucky 2018 Edition

I debated on putting this photo recap together, but oh what a year it was! We had a ton of fun and there were waaaaaay more photos that I wanted to include, but I tried to just do some highlights and favorites for everyone. My goodness, Kentucky is absolutely loaded with talent and we had an almost overwhelming amount of support in 2018. We truly can’t thank you enough and we promise to work even harder in 2019 to not only cover your favorite artists, but to create events and to shine a little light on the wonderful talent in Kentucky.

Thanks for everything and we’ll see you at the show!! (more…)

Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry Christmas At The MAC In Prestonsburg: 2018 Edition!

Last year, we made the trek to Prestonsburg after being invited to the Mountain Arts Center, or MAC as it is often referred to, to photograph their Christmas show. The MAC was the vision of Bille Jean Osborne. She was a lifelong educator that made it her goal in life to create a venue and a musical program to help foster the talent in and around Eastern Kentucky.

Her vision not only garnered the wonderful venue that is the MAC, but it began when she created the Kentucky Opry, which is now named in her honor. Billie Jean Osborne was a wonderful lady, and as an educator, she made sure she included the kids in most everything she did. That’s also why the Kentucky Jr. Pros exists.

Both of those organizations are given many opportunities to shine throughout the year, but the Christmas shows are definitely a highlight, as the Jr. Pros open the (more…)

SOLD OUT!! Crowder Raises The Roof And Spirits At The Mountain Arts Center In Prestonsburg

When it comes to Contemporary Christian music, few names are bigger than that of Crowder. So as you can imagine, Prestonsburg was buzzing with excitement that such an amazingly talented individual was visiting the Mountain Arts Center.

Crowder is the last name and moniker used by Mr. David Crowder. He rose to prominence as the frontman of the David Crowder Band. A position he held until 2012 when the band decided it was time to move on. David then pursued a solo career and Crowder is the end result. The Texas native is well known for his energetic performances and wonderful message as a fellowship leader, so I was excited to finally get to experience Crowder in one of my favorite venues.

If you’re a reader of this site, you’ll know that, in my humble opinion, the Mountain Arts Center, or MAC as it’s often referred to, has the best lighting and sound in Kentucky. The folks that run the MAC are also top-notch, so as an Eastern Kentuckian, I love to catch a show there and I knew Crowder would enjoy themselves at the MAC. (more…)

Josh Martin Comes Home To The Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg As Tyler Booth Makes His MAC Debut

It’s springtime in the Bluegrass, 60 degrees one day and snow the next. So as I’m traveling along Highway 80 to the Mountain Arts Center you’ll see evidence of spring and winter, snow in places and fruit trees blooming. That’s Kentucky weather for you. Tonight wasn’t about weather, it was about two homegrown Eastern Kentucky singers performing together at the MAC. What a performance it was!

Tyler Booth is a name that everyone in this area

Kris Bentley’s Star City Circus Jam At The Mountain Arts Center In Prestonsburg

You are asking yourself, what is a Star City Circus Jam? Glad you asked! Star City Circus Jam is a joint effort between The Revival (Kris Bentley’s (Sundy Best) band) and the Mountain Arts Center. The idea was to bring local and regional musicians and artist together for a day of music and arts. The Mountain Arts Center was the perfect place to host this gathering.

The festivities got underway at 2 pm with musical performances in the lobby by Waylon Ray Nelson, Brandon Campbell and Prototype. Tables were set up near the concession stand for a free community lunch provided by The Lunchroom Project. On the other side of the lobby you found craftsman, painters and woodworkers all with work on display and for sale. It was a great environment setting the tone for what was to come in the MAC’s main auditorium. (more…)

The Ultimate KISS Tribute Band, Kentucky’s Own Dressed To Kill at The MAC in Prestonsburg.

I found myself on a surprisingly warm winter evening at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, KY. Saturday’s show was the first of what will be a great year of shows at the MAC and I’m looking forward to attending as many as I can and so should you! There is no better venue in Eastern Kentucky to catch a show. The lights, the sound, the staff, the location…it’s all perfect!

Of the last four shows I’ve covered here at the MAC, three have been of the country variety. Two Tyler Childers shows, one Sundy Best (both Kentucky artists) and a Gov’t Mule show stuck in the middle. There was absolutely no doubt that tonight’s show was all about rocking and rolling all night long and of course partying every day. Once you entered the theater, you were immediately drawn to a large lighted KISS sign hanging behind and above the drum riser on stage. (more…)

Does Your Holiday Spirit Need A Jump Start? We Have The Perfect Christmas Show For You!

The holidays have a different effect on many. For some, it’s a joyous season. For others, it can be really emotional. No matter your view of the season, it’s always a time to reflect on those you love.

If you’re feeling a bit like the Grinch, the small Eastern Kentucky town of Prestonsburg hosts the perfect remedy to kicking your Holiday Spirit into high gear. Bille Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry Christmas show has something for everyone. You can have your photo taken with the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. Or maybe you’d like to set on Santa’s knee at the top of the stairs, riding the slide back to the bottom, ala the classic movie “A Christmas Story”. We don’t suggest asking for a Red Ryder BB Gun though, we all know how that will end, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid”! (more…)
