Music Rules! Our Recap Of The Music Rules Fest At The Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre

The Music Rules Fest is a partnership between the Mountain Arts Center and Capture Kentucky. It is an event that I am incredibly proud of and that’s exactly why this article has been so difficult for me to write.

The City of Prestonsburg now has control of the Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre, which is located in the gorgeous Jenny Wiley State Park. They have allowed the Mountain Arts Center to run the venue as a sister venue to the 1044 seated theatre at the MAC.

The city has begun a remodel of the venue and there are plans to further improve the amphitheater. Restoring it to it’s once prominent place in the community.

The Music Rules Fest was developed to be a genre-less music festival that promises good music for good people. A simple concept that we felt could grow and become a tradition while growing into a Kentucky destination music festival. (more…)

Top 15 Moments From Capture Kentucky’s First Two Years!

Here at Capture Kentucky, we’ve been incredibly blessed to be a part of some really great moments. Moments that will someday soon, be looked upon as part of our musical history. We’ve already seen the rise of several Kentucky artists and we feel there are plenty more on the horizon. Having said that, here is a list of the top 15 moments we were privileged to be a part of over the last two years!

First, an honorable mention. We created the Cinder & Smoke Fest which was held at Proud Mary BBQ in Lexington in 2018. It was the culmination of many months of work and it is something we are incredibly proud of. This year, we’re having the show in Jackson, Kentucky and when you see the lineup, you’re gonna want to snag tickets asap. So go ahead and clear 6/22 on your calendars. Trust me!

Now onto the list! (more…)

Oh What A Year In Pictures! Capture Kentucky 2018 Edition

I debated on putting this photo recap together, but oh what a year it was! We had a ton of fun and there were waaaaaay more photos that I wanted to include, but I tried to just do some highlights and favorites for everyone. My goodness, Kentucky is absolutely loaded with talent and we had an almost overwhelming amount of support in 2018. We truly can’t thank you enough and we promise to work even harder in 2019 to not only cover your favorite artists, but to create events and to shine a little light on the wonderful talent in Kentucky.

Thanks for everything and we’ll see you at the show!! (more…)

Joslyn & The Sweet Compression Brought The Party To The People!

This article won’t be in-depth. There’s a really simple reason for that and once you see the photos, you’ll get it. After all, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words right?

The Burl had to be at or near capacity. It was PACKED and I could not have been more proud. I struggled to get photos. I struggled to see. I struggled all night and I couldn’t have been happier. Seeing your friends have success is one of the best feelings on this earth.

The two bands on the bill were Magnolia Boulevard and Joslyn & The Sweet Compression. Joslyn played Magnolia Boulevard’s release party earlier this year, so it was only right that they return the favor. Our music community family showed up early and were there to celebrate the night away. No fights. No one passed out. No one unhappy. The room was all love. From folks like Justin Wells and Duane Lundy to Roger Combs and Matt Wickstrom, everyone’s heart was filled with love.

Magnolia Boulevard:

Lexington Brought The Love As Magnolia Boulevard Unleashed Their Debut EP

If you live in Kentucky, you need to be paying close attention to the musical community. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. There has likely never been a time where Kentucky has possessed more talent than she does right now. Seriously. Allow me to use Magnolia Boulevard as a shining example for ya.

Kentucky shines with artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Black Stone Cherry and Tyler Childers at the top of their games while our legends continue to thrive. Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, The Kentucky Headhunters and many more are still performing to large crowds all over the world. While that’s truly wonderful, I want you to focus more on the artists still trying to get to their levels. Remember, every single musician on this planet was once a local musician. (more…)

Joslyn And The Sweet Compression Debut Music Video For “Honey, Be”

Here at Capture Kentucky, we pride ourselves on finding talented individuals and providing a bit of a spotlight for them. We believe in discussing what you love, rather than bashing what you don’t. So if a band or artist is on our site, it’s not by accident.

One of our favorite finds is a young lady named Joslyn Hampton. Joslyn and her band The Sweet Compression were included on our 23 artists you should know list, which you can read here, so hopefully, her sound is familiar to a few of you. If not, please allow me the great pleasure to introduce you Joslyn and the Sweet Compression. (more…)

In Honor Of The Country Music Highway, 23 Kentucky Artists You Need To Know!!

When I sat down to write this article, it was originally going to be just ten artists. I had so much trouble trying to whittle down my list, that I ultimately decided to write until I felt the list was full. Turns out that the magic number wound up being twenty-three, so I figure why not dedicate this article to the Country Music Highway or as the Government calls it, U.S. 23!

This list includes every genre out there, so there truly is something for everyone here. If you know me at all, talent is talent, so enjoy this musical smorgasbord. I hope you find an artist that compels you to get involved. See a show. Buy a CD. Buy a shirt. Support the artists or lose the art.

By the way, these are in no particular order. Why? because I feel rankings and things like a battle of the bands causes more division in a musical community than they’re worth. The intent of this article is for us all to lift each other up. We’ll call it “Fan-Sharing” for lack of a better term. So here goes!
