Now before you go calling me crazy, hear me out. As I type this article, there are already several artists or bands that are currently making an impact in the music industry. For instance, Eastern Kentuckians Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson have country back on track to being a listenable art form again. Louisville’s Bryson Tiller created an entire music genre. Bowling Green’s Cage The Elephant are chart-toppers in the Alternative world and let’s not forget that they also won a Grammy. Edmonton, KY’s Black Stone Cherry continue to carry the classic rock and roll torch. You can also add Louisville’s My Morning Jacket as a festival staple and headliner. Kentucky is a fertile music bed that is about to produce even more artists. So here’s a list of artists on the brink, that we feel you outta get to know sooner, rather than later.
It’s not often that a multi-platinum artist visits a small venue like Manchester Music Hall in Lexington, but when it happens, it’s always special. The dense crowd was hanging onto every word and sang-along much of the night with vocalist Eric Martin of Mr. Big. The fact that you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more talented group than Mr. Big seemingly wasn’t lost on the Lexington crowd. As they all enjoyed the virtuoso performances provided by Paul Gilbert and bass-playing extraordinaire, Billy Sheehan. Lexington was thrilled to host these guys and by the photos, I’m sure you can tell that they were more than happy with their acceptance. Be sure and check out their new album, Defying Gravity on July 21st. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Share away! (more…)

PETE RG, an American singer/songwriter/producer from Los Angeles, CA. The name, RG, is taken from his childhood moniker, Argy, an abbreviation of his lengthy, Greek last name, Argyropoulos. He’s hitting the road for a U.S. headlining solo tour in support of his third TENDER SOULS album along with his band: Brina Kabler (keyboards, vocals), Adam Kury (bass), Dave Krusen (drums) and Kevin Haaland (lead guitar).
The newly renovated Red Mile in Lexington, KY was host to the American Flat Track Motorcycle Racing Series. It had been 23 years since an event of this magnitude had been held in the Bluegrass and neither the fans, nor the event left disappointed.
With the gates opening at 2pm, the fans found their way through many vendors and tons of motorcycles lined up along the back lot at the Red Mile. Everyone from Indian Motorcycles, to Harley-Davidson, to food trucks and live bands. There was something there for most everyone. (more…)
Recently, I was invited to participate in the 8th Annual Memorial Motorcycle Ride, which was hosted by Second Brigade MC Chapter H, KY. It’s something that I had never been involved with and a great friend, Heather Jent and her Husband Roy, asked me if I’d like to ride along and capture the essence of what the ride was all about. I’m going to be honest, I didn’t know what or how I was going to capture something that I had never experienced, but when a friend invites you, you do it. No questions asked. So, we set off to Don Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant in Lawrenceburg to begin the day. (more…)
Recently it has come to our attention that our home community of Paris, lost a young man way too soon. Thomas Lane Minnick lost his life in a tragic boating accident in Bourbon County. He was heavily involved with the Bourbon County Marching Band, for which I was the photographer for several years. Thomas was a two-time State Champion in Class AAA KMEA Marching Band.
My son was a member of the Bourbon County Marching Band for six years, so I know the comradery and lifelong friendships that grew from that activity. I ask, as a friend, parent and member of this community, that you please donate if you are able. All involved will certainly be thankful.
Thomas and family are far from rich and definitely not prepared for the loss or the expenses involved. Bourbon County Marching Band President Shelly Zonker has started a gofundme to help alleviate some of this terrible tragedy.
Thank you so much from the Capture Kentucky family. May God Bless Thomas and our community. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with everyone touched by this tragedy.

Hazard, Kentucky – The Bible Belt encompasses the small town of Hazard, Kentucky. Religion runs deep and strong in the beautiful mountains in which the village is situated, and it is incorporated into the lives of the residents from birth. The people are salt of the earth types; hard working, good neighbors, hospitable, and generous with a kind word for those fortunate enough to make their acquaintance. This is God’s country. Winding roads traversing mountain sides with majestic views are the norm. Small houses of worship line the way, seeming to sprout from the mountains like the trees that manage to find purchase in the exposed bedrock. Faith is worn as a badge of honor in these parts.
