Corbin, Kentucky – Kentucky has produced many musicians and bands that people have loved over time. None on the scale of Southern Rock legends, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Then again, few places have produced a band with the talent and longevity of Skynyrd. One band in particular that Kentucky has produced, is Black Stone Cherry. They’re often described as a modern day Lynyrd Skynyrd, on steroids. They’ve created a sound that’s definitely akin to Skynyrd, but has modern elements that have created a sound undeniably their own. The WV Power have become a natural rival for the Legends, as their fanbases are close enough that they often travel to each other’s stadiums to take in the action. On this weekend though, the teams added a little historical flavor to the mix. With both states having resident’s of both the Hatfield’s & McCoy’s, the families that lay claim (more…)
We here at Capture Kentucky are always listening and learning about new and exciting things to do in our Commonwealth. Whether it be food, horses, events, bourbon, brews, music, art, venues or a new museum, we want to be involved. So when a friend recommended a newer restaurant, that grew from a food truck, we were not only intrigued, we were on a mission.
We were told about J Render’s, which opened in May of 2016. J Render’s Southern Table and Bar, located at 3191 Beaumont Center Circle in Lexington, KY has a variety of dishes that will make you feel right at home. Well, if you’re from the south at least. J Render’s serves up a Texas-style BBQ, which has a vinegar-based sauce. The red sauce is used primarily on the brisket, pork and even the Purnell’s KY Proud Smoked Sausage. The sauce comes in a couple of different tastes. While the Alabama-style white sauce is used mainly on the chicken. The menu has items such as appetizers, salads, smoked brisket, smoked pork, smoked chicken, smoked sausage, BBQ sandwiches, meatloaf, buttermilk (more…)
