Capture Kentucky Announces A Music Showcase Featuring Three Rising Stars From Kentucky

Music is an integral part of what we do here at Capture Kentucky. On a personal level, I’ve been involved in music for the last 18 years. I’ve managed a few bands. I’ve designed lots of posters. I’ve booked and promoted sold-out shows. I’ve been a publicist. I’ve been a journalist. I’ve been a concert photographer. Music has afforded me many great opportunities and I am truly forever grateful for that. That’s why this article is an incredible moment for me. I’ve decided to start a series of showcases that shine a light on the amazing talent that’s right here in our great Commonwealth. It’s time that I give back…

In This Moment Brings P.O.D., New Years Day and DED to the Louisville Palace

I don’t usually start an article with an apology, but this time I feel I must. See, we arrived at Louder Than Life last year while DED was onstage. I missed them, even though their publicist, “Brother” Ed Bunker had insisted they were not to be missed. So I wanted to start by saying, Ed, I’m sorry. You, per usual, were right about DED. More on those guys in a moment. Any day or night that I can spend at the Louisville Palace is always great. I mean, what better way to spend a Saturday night than with 1,000+ fellow music lovers in such a beautiful venue? Right? On this…

On The Road: Nashville Superstars Band Together To Help One Of Their Own, Mike Owens

Some nights, you are just simply more fortunate than you feel you deserve. Wednesday night happened to be one of those nights for me. Please allow me to explain. This is the third time that I have written this article. Why? Because I didn’t feel what I had written had really captured what happened in Nashville that night. The other incarnations focused too much on the music and the people involved. Please don’t think I’m downplaying all the artists that were involved with this fundraiser that we were fortunate enough to attend that night. Because let me just say it was one of the most incredible nights of music that…

The Ultimate KISS Tribute Band, Kentucky’s Own Dressed To Kill at The MAC in Prestonsburg.

I found myself on a surprisingly warm winter evening at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, KY. Saturday’s show was the first of what will be a great year of shows at the MAC and I’m looking forward to attending as many as I can and so should you! There is no better venue in Eastern Kentucky to catch a show. The lights, the sound, the staff, the location…it’s all perfect! Of the last four shows I’ve covered here at the MAC, three have been of the country variety. Two Tyler Childers shows, one Sundy Best (both Kentucky artists) and a Gov’t Mule show stuck in the middle. There was…

A Homecoming Launch Party. Jimmy Yeary, Tyler Booth, Shefton Kash and Rachel Messer

Here at Capture Kentucky, I’ve said many times that it is always a great time when an artist returns to their hometown or state to play a show. On the flipside of that coin, is seeing a community rally around a young artist who they feel has what it takes to “make it”. What if both were to happen on the same night? Would my brain explode? To answer those questions, let’s set the scene a bit. Wolfe County, which nestles the tiny town of Campton, is home to an established artist and songwriter in Jimmy Yeary. Jimmy has written or co-written many popular songs and even a few number…

Alan Jackson’s Honky Tonk Highway Runs Through Rupp Arena On A Chilly Friday Night

If there is one thing that you can say about Central Kentucky with 100% certainty, it is that country music is King. So it should be no surprise, that Alan Jackson kicked off his latest tour at Rupp Arena. Tagging along on this tour, is former American Idol runner-up and fellow Georgian Lauren Alaina. Rupp Arena was booming as early as 5pm and that’s awesome. Why? Because the local iHeart Media station, WBUL, partners up with a local Watering Hole, Austin City Saloon, to bring you a pre-show in the lobby of Rupp Arena. Together it is called the Austin City Saloon Sound Stage and on this night, one of…

Country Superstar Dwight Yoakam Comes Home To Kentucky For A Wild Ride In Ashland

On a chilly Sunday evening, I got the chance to do one of my favorite things on Earth. I got to see one of the many talented performers that our great Commonwealth has produced, back home here in Kentucky. Dwight Yoakam played to a sold-out crowd at the beautiful Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, KY. This was my first trip to the Paramount and it was also my first time seeing Dwight Yoakam. Neither would disappoint on this night. The Paramount is a beautifully preserved theater. It’s like walking back in time to a 1930’s era “Movie House”. It’s a bit art deco with beautiful murals adorning the walls and…

Southern Avenue Heats Up The Appalshop In Whitesburg!

After a week of sub-freezing and sometimes subzero temperatures this day all though cloudy was nice in comparison. It was about to get a lot better. Memphis Tennessee’s own Southern Avenue was making a stop at the Appalshop Theater in Whitesburg. If you haven’t heard of Southern Avenue you need to correct that in a hurry. Tierinii Jackson, Ori Naftaly, Tikyra Jackson, Jeremy Powell and Gage Markey put on a high energy show and Tierinii can sing! Everyone in attendance knew they were in for a treat with the first notes of “Steady Beats” then “It’s Gonna Be Alright” if you weren’t hooked by then there’s something wrong with you!

You May Have Went To Church On New Year’s Eve, But St. Paul Took Us To Church At The Louisville Palace

For the second year in a row, we’ve celebrated the New Year at my personal favorite venue on the planet, the Louisville Palace. Last year, we rocked our way into 2017 with Southern Rockers, Blackberry Smoke. That was a truly fantastic night of fun, but on an absolutely frigid Sunday night, Church was held at the Louisville Palace. The War & Treaty kicked off the night. I scanned a couple of tracks online before the show, but with the hectic schedule of the holidays, I was really going into their set blindly. In hindsight, that probably wasn’t my best move, but after the fact, I wouldn’t change a thing. Why?…

Spotted! The Wooks Brought Some Local Honeys To Cosmic Charlie’s!

For a long time, Lexington, KY’s music scene languished, seemingly never able to realize it’s identity and enjoy the talents of those in this area. There were spurts that gave it life, but it seemed that no one knew what could be done to bring everyone together. In the last 15 years, the scene has seen some amazing musicians, many of which picked up and left to make their mark elsewhere. The loss of the Dame certainly set back the scene for years, but right now the scene is vibrant and booming. Sure some venues have survived and even thrived, but it’s the last five years that has built a…
