Bowling Green’s Spillway Bar & Grill Celebrates 20th Anniversary on May 12th!

What does a music venue really mean to a community? That’s a very difficult question to answer, but one that I want to try and tackle. Smaller venues have a tendency to attract fair-weather business owners, especially when the capacity of the venue isn’t 25,000 people where so many people go and word of mouth helps things grow much more quickly. As soon as a small venue begins losing money, most close up shop and disappear as a small blip on the musical map. Others though, help musicians and communities grow and as time goes on are sometimes taken for granted. When those things happen, it breaks my heart. As…

SOLD OUT!! Clutch Brings Pure Rock Fury To The Manchester Music Hall With The Bronx, Red Fang & Fireball Ministry

I want to start this review with a huge thank you to my fellow Kentuckians. Lexington in particular, has never really been known as a “metal community.” In all honesty, it still isn’t, but Saturday night at the Manchester Music Hall, you folks delivered like I’ve never experienced you in roughly 18 years of going to concerts. First, you sold-out Manchester Music Hall. Second, I saw ZERO fights despite massive amounts of liquid courage being consumed. As a whole, the night was a wet, sweaty, loud celebration of four great bands doing their best to deliver a show like no other. Did y’all succeed in making a fun and loving…

Rival Sons Make A Historic Two-Night Stand In Whitesburg At The Appalshop Theater

I always try to write a review by sharing a unique viewpoint. It may be a bit of history about an artist, a venue or even a personal experience that I share with you. The story that I want to tell in this review will contain all three-prongs of the above description. So I want to warn you, this article will be lengthy and personal. Stay with me, I think you’ll enjoy. Several years ago, we’ll call it the MySpace Age, I was the national talent buyer at the old A1A Concert Hall in Lexington. I spent many hours searching for bands on MySpace. The venue’s capacity was only 500,…

Joslyn And The Sweet Compression Debut Music Video For “Honey, Be”

Here at Capture Kentucky, we pride ourselves on finding talented individuals and providing a bit of a spotlight for them. We believe in discussing what you love, rather than bashing what you don’t. So if a band or artist is on our site, it’s not by accident. One of our favorite finds is a young lady named Joslyn Hampton. Joslyn and her band The Sweet Compression were included on our 23 artists you should know list, which you can read here, so hopefully, her sound is familiar to a few of you. If not, please allow me the great pleasure to introduce you Joslyn and the Sweet Compression.

Somebody Call 911! SIMO and Sour Cream Did Their Best To Burn Down The Burl

Sunday nights are usually my rest night for the week. Sometimes though, the music draws me away from my slumber. On this night, two bands drew me in. With the weather being bi-polar, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the threat of a little of the white stuff wasn’t gonna get in my way of seeing Mr. JD Simo and his band, aptly named SIMO. First up, let’s talk about some local kids that will absolutely blow your mind. The kids in Sour Cream have music in their bones. As Black Stone Cherry put it, “It’s In My Blood”, that’s definitely the case for these 15-year old kids. A…

Black Stone Cherry Becomes The Band We All Dreamed Of With Family Tree

There are few bands that can even come close to deserving recognition as a true Southern rock band. The grit, the grime, the hard workin’ blue-collar work ethic that crafts such powerful anthems is often imitated, but rarely replicated. You need to live a Southern life to truly understand it and represent it to the masses. When Black Stone Cherry released their self-titled debut back in 2006, we all envisioned these guys as a new modern heavier version of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Pink Makes A Stop In Louisville On Her Beautiful Trauma World Tour

I’ve had the opportunity, and great privilege, to witness and even cover many of the biggest musical stars in the world. Arguably though, I have never had the opportunity to photograph a more famous female star than the beautiful young lady that you know by the name of Pink. If you follow this site, the fact that I’m covering a P!nk show may catch you off-guard a bit. While I won’t claim to be a huge pop fan, P!nk is, on a personal level, my favorite pop female voice. She is my biggest guilty pleasure in music. She is such a confident, talented, funny and real star. I am equally…
