A Night With The Master Musicians Festival At The Burl Takeover

Somerset, Kentucky is a small city that many others could learn from. They have found their niche and are thriving. You could take a trip to Lake Cumberland to relax. You could enjoy one of many Somernites Cruises. Maybe you would prefer to enjoy the SomerSplash waterpark. For my money, you need to make the trip to Somerset on July 13th and 14th. That’s when the 25th edition of the Master Musicians Festival takes place.

This year’s headliner is folk legend John Prine. That should be enough of an incentive to go, but if not, allow me to talk some sense into ya. In addition to Mr. Prine, you’ll also be treated to performances by Amanda Shires, JD McPherson, the Felice Brothers and The Dead South. Still not convinced? What if I told you that some of the regions top talent will be showcased as well? Many of the folks that we have written about here at Capture Kentucky will be in one spot for you to enjoy. Kentucky artists like Joslyn & The Sweet Compression, Magnolia Boulevard, Luna And The Mountain Jets, Coby Langham, Eric Bolander, John Clay, Grayson Jenkins and several others will surely lure ya in.

To celerate and promote the Master Musicians Festival, the folks behind it brought some of the talent that will be playing to the Burl in Lexington. MMF took over the Burl and their partner, West Sixth Brewing, took over the taps. We’re happy to also be affiliated with West Sixth, they are a sponsor for our Cinder & Smoke Fest on July 21st. They are some mighty fine folks.

On this night, our own Estil Robinson was in attendance. He captured the gallery below of Arlo McKinley, Ben Knight And The Welldiggers, Bee Taylor, and Kevin Dalton. He was certainly impressed and you will be too. Be sure and pick up your tickets here. Who knows, you may even run into us!
